# Emberveil - public source

Emberveil is an actively developed RuneScape private-server project built on **2006Scape** and its 317-protocol client. Development, testing and artwork have been assisted by OpenAI tools. This repository contains the server, desktop client, mobile browser bridge/interface, homepage source, launcher scripts and tests. It is not a from-scratch engine or a copy of Lost City Labs.

## License and credits

The existing GNU General Public License version 3 is preserved in LICENSE. Emberveil modifications in this snapshot are offered under GPL-3.0. Existing copyright notices and upstream credits remain in their source files. Credit to the 2006Scape contributors, Apollo contributors and the authors identified in the retained source headers. See UPSTREAM-README.md. RuneScape is a Jagex property; Emberveil is an independent fan project.

## Current content

This snapshot has 22 enabled classic quests (14 free, 8 members), 4x configured XP, Slayer, skilling, PvM and Wilderness PvP. Clock Tower and Tribal Totem were the most recent quest additions. The list is not a claim that every quest or skill is complete or bug-free. Four classic free quests remain disabled: Ernest the Chicken, Demon Slayer, Prince Ali Rescue and Dragon Slayer.

The mobile browser client is a beta. Its latest controls include touch navigation and an over-game chat composer. Physical phone compatibility remains under testing. Owner cosmetics and administrative convenience commands are visible in source; they are not competitive progression rewards.

## Layout

- game/2006Scape Server/src/main/java - world, skills, quests and networking
- game/2006Scape Client/src/main/java - desktop client and rendering
- game/2006Scape Server/data/cfg - static gameplay definitions and spawns
- mobile/java and mobile/public - browser networking bridge and touch/chat interface
- website - homepage and highscores presentation
- tests - progression, collision, inventory, concurrency, client asset and interface checks
- launcher - published desktop launcher/updater source

## Building a separate development world

Use Java 8 and Maven. The parent Maven project is game/pom.xml; run `mvn -f game/pom.xml package`. The legacy server POM expects the EverythingRS API library at `game/2006Scape Server/libs/everythingrs-api.jar`; obtain that third-party dependency separately under its provider's terms. Compiled dependencies and private deployment tooling are not distributed here. See the retained upstream README for the original module workflow.

Copy ServerConfig.Sample.json to your own local configuration and create empty writable character/log directories. Supply a compatible game cache separately at the expected data/cache location. Game cache files and compiled game downloads are excluded from this source repository.

Generate a fresh development RSA key pair using the retained RSA key-generation utility. Supply the private exponent and modulus to the SERVER with `-Demberveil.rsa.privateExponent=... -Demberveil.rsa.modulus=...`; configure the matching PUBLIC key in your development client. SourceRsaKeys deliberately refuses to start without these values. Production RSA private values were removed from this snapshot. Client server-address defaults in this snapshot use loopback; browser gateway/cache hosting also needs a local development setup.

## What is intentionally excluded

No player saves, player passwords, live server configuration, private RSA keys, API/Discord credentials, SSH material, logs, cache files or compiled deployment artifacts are included. Files in runtime and .openai directories are not copied. This repository is a fresh export and does not contain the private workspace's history.

## Owner update, October 18

Both ::slayertask and ::slayzone resolve bonds' current task to an accessible adjacent public spawn. Completed teleport state no longer blocks repeated use. Custom item14999 is bonds' unique black partyhat with animated gold flames and an account-checked +500 melee Strength bonus. Ordinary partyhats retain their normal stats and colours. Trade, staking, sale, manual dropping and non-owner equipping are blocked. The production one-off grant is operational data and is not part of the source snapshot.

## Pets and capes, October 19

Nineteen non-combat followers cover the existing classic bosses and seven skills. Inventory Drop releases a pet, and its Pick-up action returns it. Ownership checks stop other players taking followers. Followers follow across floors, persist through saves and have no attack option or combat hitpoints. A full backpack sends an earned pet to a free bank slot. Boss rolls are independent of ordinary loot; KBD is 1/3000, KQ and Mole 1/3000, Dagannoth Kings and original God Wars bosses 1/5000, Chaos Elemental 1/300 and Jad completion 1/200. Woodcutting, mining, fishing, agility and Runecrafting use activity-dependent base rates minus 25 times the base skill level. Emberveil explicitly uses custom bases of 100000 per successful theft and 10000 per final crop harvest or health check. Quest rewards, lamps, planting and composting do not roll pets. Variant transformations and pet insurance/reclaim services are not implemented in this release.

The real trimmed Prayer cape and Max cape models are supported. Prayer requires 99 Prayer; the Max cape requires 99 in all 21 supported skills. The unique owner hat remains separate. Real asset inputs are the historical OSRS revision129 cache at https://archive.openrs2.org/caches/runescape/455 ; game assets are excluded from this source archive. The desktop client verifies the six published cache files and prepares an isolated asset folder before startup, preserving caches used by already-open clients. Production item grants and account saves are excluded.
